The Town of Ajax, Region of Durham and surrounding municipalities are once again coming together to recognize National Hunger Action Month and encourage the community to help support local food banks through awareness, non-perishable food donations and funds.
Food insecurity continues to affect people of all ages and household types across Durham Region. As the community grows and the cost of food and everyday essentials remains high, local food banks and related services continue to see significant demand. To address the needs of the community, the Town and neighbouring municipalities are taking action together.
From September 9 to October 5, residents, businesses, community groups and organizations are encouraged to join and help battle hunger by dropping off non-perishable food items at five convenient locations in the Town of Ajax:
- Ajax Town Hall (65 Harwood Avenue South)
- *McLean Community Centre (95 Magill Drive)
- *Ajax Community Centre (75 Centennial Road)
- *Audley Recreation Centre (1955 Audley Road North)
- *Ajax Public Library – Main Branch (55 Harwood Avenue South)
*Weekend drop off available
All donations will be leveraged by local Ajax food banks to support families in need.

- Suggested items include: Unopened, non-perishable food items such as rice, oats, cereal, pancake mix and syrup, pasta and pasta sauce, canned beans and vegetables, canned fish and meats, soup, instant noodles, crackers, granola bars, peanut-free school snacks, peanut butter, flour and sugar, hot chocolate, instant coffee, kraft dinner and meal kits, household items like toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap and household cleaners and gift cards.
