Ajax Fire and Emergency Services has implemented a temporary fire ban, effective immediately and until further notice. This is due to ongoing hot, dry weather conditions and the increased risk of fire spread.
Dry vegetation, low humidity, and elevated temperatures have created conditions where even a small spark can quickly ignite and spread, posing a significant risk to people, property, and natural areas. The fire ban is a proactive measure to help reduce the likelihood of preventable fires and ensure the safety of the community.
During the fire ban, all outdoor open-air burning is prohibited. Existing burn permits are suspended, and no new permits will be issued until the ban is lifted. Recreational fires, fire pits, chimineas, and other outdoor wood-burning appliances are not permitted. Propane and natural gas barbecues and cooking appliances may continue to be used safely and with close supervision.
Ajax Fire and Emergency Services will continue to monitor weather conditions and fire risk. The fire ban will remain in effect until conditions improve. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through the Town of Ajax’s official communication channels and to report any signs of smoke or fire immediately by calling 9-1-1.
QUOTE
“The current weather conditions significantly increase the risk of fires starting and spreading rapidly. We’re asking everyone to do their part by respecting the fire ban and using extra caution with any activity that could create sparks or open flames. A single preventable fire can have serious consequences for our community.” – Kaitlyn Moss, Public Educator, Town of Ajax
