Ajax maintains silver status in recognition of its continued commitment to active transportation
The Town of Ajax has once again been recognized as a Silver Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) by the Share the Road Cycling Coalition as part of the 2026 Bicycle Friendly Community Awards.
Presented annually at the Ontario Bike Summit, the awards recognize municipalities demonstrating leadership in creating safe, accessible and connected communities through cycling infrastructure, education, planning and community engagement.
Ajax is one of the five Ontario municipalities to receive silver status this year, reflecting the Town’s continued commitment to supporting cycling and advancing active transportation throughout the community.

- The Town first achieved Silver Designation in the Bicycle Friendly Communities Awards in 2017. This is the third year that Ajax has received silver as part of the 2026 BFC Awards.
- Ajax is one of five municipalities to receive silver status in the 2026 BFC Awards.
- Municipalities are assessed on cycling infrastructure, education, encouragement, enforcement, equity, planning and evaluation.
- Ajax has an expanding bike network extending over 180km and a Shared E-scooter and E-bike Pilot Program achieving over 70,000 trips since 2023. This has increased access to many destinations within the Town as well as Transit.
- TOA’s Active Transportation Coordinator, Armi De Francia, also received the Norma Moores Award at the Ontario Bike Summit.
- According to the Share the Road Cycling Coalition, 20% of Ontarians, representing approximately 3.2 million people, ride a bicycle at least once a week, demonstrating the important role cycling already plays in communities across the province.
- The Share the Road Cycling Coalition is Ontario’s cycling advocacy and policy organization. Through advocacy, education, research and partnership, the Coalition works with municipalities, communities, stakeholders and governments to improve cycling safety, increase access to active transportation and support the development of bicycle-friendly communities across Ontario.
