In honour of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, join us for the unveiling of new artwork at Zhaagawaamikong Aazhokigan and participate in community programming that offers opportunities to learn, reflect, and come together in the spirit of reconciliation.

About the artist:
Sharifah Marsden is an Anishinaabe visual artist, jeweller, and educator known for large-scale public murals, fine jewelry, and mixed media works rooted in Anishinaabe teachings and Woodland style.
Sharifah brings more than two decades of experience leading culturally informed, community-based art practices incorporating mentorship and engagement with Indigenous youth.
Her artistic vision is grounded in the values of healing, visibility, and intergenerational connection. Known for her swirls, florals, beadwork inspired geometrics and depiction of women and children.
Please note: The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation gathering will include conversations and storytelling that speak to the traumatic legacy of residential schools, colonial violence, and the ongoing impacts on Indigenous communities. These discussions may be emotional or triggering for some attendees.
Did you know?
The Town of Ajax recently completed a collaborative process to bring Indigenous naming into this important waterfront space. Through the Town’s commemorative naming process, this site was identified as significant to the Michi Saagiig Anishinaabeg, reflecting an area where communities traditionally lived, harvested and fished. This work culminated in the commemorative renaming of Rotary Park Bridge in Anishinaabemowin as Zhaagawaamikong Aazhokigan — “Bridge at the lakeshore.”
