The Canadian National Energy Efficiency Day is celebrated annually on the first Wednesday of October and is on Wednesday, October 7th in 2026. It’s a day dedicated to raising awareness about the benefits of energy efficiency and spotlighting the people, technologies, and policies driving Canada’s clean energy future.

To celebrate this day, an Energy Efficiency Expo is being organized for October 3rd, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Community Hall in the McLean Community Centre. The event is being delivered in partnership with Ajax Public Library, Elexicon Energy, the City of Pickering, the Town of Whitby, the Region of Durham, TAF Home Solar Accelerator and Windfall Ecology Centre as well as local vendors.

Municipal & Partner Showcase — Pop‑up tables featuring participating municipalities, Durham Greener Homes, and Elexicon Energy, highlighting local programs, incentives, and community initiatives.
Ajax Interactive Energy Zone — Launch of Home Energy Toolkit, hands‑on games and challenges focused on energy efficiency, helping attendees learn practical home and lifestyle tips through engaging activities.
Home Solar Accelerator – Pop‑up station highlighting how solar, heat pumps, EV charging, and energy efficiency fit together. Quick, conversational prompts guide homeowners through key decisions:
Heat Pump Demonstration Workshop — Live expert-led demonstration showing how modern heat pumps operate, their efficiency benefits, and what homeowners should consider when planning an upgrade.
E‑Bike & E‑Scooter Test Track — On‑site demonstration and safe riding area where visitors can try out Lime e‑bikes and e‑scooters and learn about commuting benefits.
Local EV Showcase — Participation from local car dealerships displaying their latest electric vehicles, offering Q&A sessions, and providing information on range, charging, and incentives.
